L.O.T.E. (Italian) 2009/2010
Ciao! Mi chiamo Angela Francavilla and I will be your child's teacher of Italian. In my classes your child will be involved in a range of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities that will assist them in learning the Italian language and culture. Students will have a one hour weekly session, however I encourage all students to visit the website "Languages Online" throughout their spare time to support my weekly sessions. This site as a range of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities that, focus on over 30 different topics. It's also a great way for parents to learn the language with their child.
The Italian program covers the following content for each of the areas;
PREP
At this level the content involves language from familiar situations. Students imitate and repeat key words through a range of activities for example: oral games, songs with actions and chants. Texts are short with clear structure, illustrations and repetitive language.
GRADES ONE & TWO
At this level, the skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing are extended further. Students begin to recognise simple words and phrases, which are used and emphasised in the classroom. Students are given the opportunity to communicate their understandings by writing labels, captions and signs for objects and pictures. The content involves language from familiar situations and tasks are generally short and involve language that is recycled.
GRADES 3 & 4
At this level, the content involves language from their everyday experiences and personal interests. Tasks are generally familiar and include reading aloud, predicting meaning and participating in verbal and non verbal activities. They produce short written texts adapted from model provided.
GRADES 5 &6
At this level the context involves language and content drawn from general issues and the students' experiences. Tasks include modelled writing and participation in short dialogues. Texts are generally based on familiar structures, but may include new words that students can decipher using a bilingual dictionary.
Ciao for now, Angela Francavilla.
